Metropolia Krakowska (Kraków Metropolis) in Poland was created in 2014. Kraków has a population of 800,000 spanning an area of 324 km2. The metropolis includes Krakow and its 14 surrounding municipalities, which have an additional combined population of 200,000 inhabitants, spanning an area of 951 km2. Metropolia Krakowska coordinates a number of metropolitan tasks, including those relating to environmental and ecological issues.
Through its participation in INTERLACE, Metropolia Krakowska aims to gather experience and good practice for protecting, restoring and managing the urban ecosystems. The association wants to verify and develop the existing tools in its practice and include citizens, local authorities and all other stakeholders in participatory processes, for urban ecological restoration and management.
