The National Biological Corridors Plan aims to promote the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in Costa Rica, from a structural functional ecosystemic connectivity perspective. The biological corridors are regulated by the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC). This instrument strengthens protected areas and their connectivity, is a measure of adaptation and mitigation to climate change, maintenance of ecosystem services, urban planning and management, as well as articulation with other sectors and represents a model of participatory governance in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity for the benefit of society.
